May Happenings

William got glasses in May! It was a scary experience. In the period of about 2-3 weeks he went from being able to see fine (He got 100% on his music class test!) to not being able to read his piano music or see the keys on the piano. His eyes would go cross-eyed and he was seeing double. We had noticed the cross eyed issue before it started getting severe and had made an appointment with a pediatric opthamologist. A few days later, when things started to really go downhill quickly we moved up his appointment. The doctor wrote him a prescription for some glasses. So far, the glasses have helped a lot. We will continue to monitor him for the next few months to make sure that glasses are solving the problem for now. Hopefully, he will wear glasses or contacts for the next several years and then grow out of the problem.

We felt so bad for him! He was tripping and couldn't put mustard on his hot dog. It was awful. I took him to Costco to pick out his glasses. Costco said that it usually takes up to 2 weeks for glasses to come in. We ordered them on a Tuesday and prayed really hard that the glasses would arrive before William's Friday night piano recital. On Wednesday, I took William to Walgreens to get some generic reading glasses because I felt so bad for him! On Friday I got a call 2 hours before William's recital saying that his glasses were in! It was a miracle! Unfortunately, when we picked up the glasses he did not recog We jumped in the car, picked up the glasses and headed to his recital!

William did an awesome job in his last Let's Play Music recital! He played the piece that he composed entitled "Battle Between  Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader". He was awarded his trophy!! He has been so excited to get that trophy. Grandma and Grandpa Bleak came to watch him. It was a special night for him! I'm so happy that he's finished the program. He will start private piano lessons in June. By the way, he entered his piano piece into the Fine Arts Festival at his elementary school and won first place in  the whole school! The piano he played it on was out of tune and had several keys that didn't work, but he just kept going and did a fantastic job!

We had a nice Mother's day! The boys made me a delicious breakfast in bed.

We went to a Lego expo that was actually pretty neat! I loved the Disneyland entrance display.

Henry had an amazing year in Preschool!! We are so proud of him! He is a sensitive soul and had a couple of incidents where he would hit one of the other students if they hurt his feelings. We talked a lot about this with him and with the teacher. It was usually involving a particular little boy who Henry felt didn't like him. Finally, we decided that I would say a prayer with him every morning before he walked into the classroom. It really helped him. When we went to his parent teacher conference, his teacher said that he had completely changed and was now one of the star students in the class! It was such a wonderful report.

We had a really special Memorial Day! We had a picnic on my great grandmother's grave (Chloe Monk) on one of the quilts she made. We had a little lesson about her and about Nathan's grandparents who are also buried in the same cemetery. I found some childhood pictures of our ancestors, and the boys really enjoyed that.
