Grandpa & Grandma Monk's Visit

We have a tradition of going to Colorado every year to visit with Grandpa and Grandma Monk. Unfortunately, we were unable to go this year so they came to visit us! Nathan took a day off of work and we had a mini vacation with them. The boys and I went with them to the Museum of Natural History. Grandpa rode in the backseat of the car with the boys and talked to them about trucks the whole way to the museum. Henry was impressed. The museum was awesome! It's very well done and we will definitely be going back. They even have a few areas designed to be interactive for children.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much Henry enjoyed it. He especially loved the dinosaur exhibit. He really loved looking at all of the big dinosaurs. William, of course, had a blast.

On Friday we had a picnic/small camping experience. Grandpa really wanted to take the boys camping. I really want the boys to go camping and have some male bonding time with him and Nathan :-). However, we decided that with their ages right now we should keep things short and simple. We went up the canyon and roasted hot dogs and played together. We threw a frisbee and hung out. The boys brought their shovels and dump truck and had lots of fun digging in the dirt.  We also made a delicious pineapple upside down cake in a dutch oven. We did forget a few crucial ingredients like hot dog buns and brown sugar, but we worked with what we had and everyone got full!

Saturday, Grandma and Grandpa attended their 60 year high school reunion. Crazy! We met up with them at Toys R Us to pick out birthday presents for the boys and then went out to dinner. By that time, Henry was really attached to them. He did not want to let Grandpa out of his sight! It was so cute! He would come and grab his hand and say " 'Mon Grampa." As we were leaving the store he refused to let go of him and pulled Grandpa into the car to sit next to him. So, Grandpa rode in the back seat again and I drove with Grandma to the restaurant. Grandpa was even persuaded to attend all of nursery with Henry on Sunday. Henry was delighted!

We always enjoy spending time with Grandpa and Grandma! We're so grateful they came to visit us. It is just so special and neat to watch my boys forming relationships and happy memories with them, like I have.

How fun! I have so many fun memories of camping with them when we were little. And am glad you made pineapple upside cake, because I also always remember that! My poor kids will never ever get to go camping, since both parents aren't fans. But I could totally do this kind of camping.:) I love the pic of grandma & grandpa walking & holding hands. Cute!
