This summer was very crazy and hectic for us. One of the major events that added to the craziness was buying a house and moving! Nobody was more shocked or surprised than we were. We had no intentions of buying or even shopping for a new house this year. Yet through a crazy turn of events we actually bought a house! Here's a bit of the story:
A good friend told me about a house for sale in her neighborhood last December. She lives in an area that Nathan and I have always loved and had talked about moving to one day. I looked at the house online and thought it was beautiful. However, it was significantly overpriced so I didn't consider it. The house continued to sit on the market through the first part of this year and into the summer. I just happened to be online one evening looking at what one of our neighbors had listed their townhome for when I noticed that the particular house was having an open house in 2 days. (Open houses are rare these days. Most people shop for homes online so it was unique that they were holding one.) I was excited to walk through it. I mentioned to Nathan that I wanted to stop by over the weekend and see this house that I had loved. To my surprise he said he wanted to go with me. He remembered that house from when I looked at it online several months ago. He said he really liked that neighborhood and wanted to go see it with me. So, we casually walked through the open house the next Saturday. We went through the house. The basement had a cat door, which made me laugh and I said was a "sign", but Nathan laughed and said it wasn't. After the tour we talked and both said that we really liked the house and the nice lot it was on. Over the next few days we discussed if we liked it enough to pursue it. We set up a time to walk through it again. After a lot of fasting, prayers, temple attendance, etc. We decided to put an offer on it. We found a realtor and went through a painstaking process of negotiating with the sellers. They had lowered the price significantly from the original listing, but were still hoping to get as much as they could. To make a long story short, our realtor and other people on our "team" put in very good words for us and pulled some strings to tip things our way. I really didn't think they would accept our offer, but Nathan never doubted it. When our realtor called to tell us we got the house we were in complete shock! In a little over a week we went from not even looking at houses nor having a realtor, to owning a home. The implications of moving were starting to sink in: Nathan being released as Bishop, myself packing and moving being 7 months pregnant, saying goodbye to dear friends and neighbors, etc. Luckily, Grandpa and Grandma Monk and Nathan's mom helped us SO much with getting the new house ready to move into. We were overwhelmed with gratitude for their help and the help of our amazing friends on moving day. So, at the end of July we moved into our new house and said goodbye to the townhome that we have loved for the past 6 years. It was sad to say goodbye to our townhome. We have so many great memories of living there. We brought 2 beautiful babies home to that house. It was a great first home. I took some pictures of it before we moved out to remember it.
